A Tiny Make-Over For A Tiny Closet

One of my life's dreams is to have a big closet. I'm not talking huge here. It doesn’t need to have an island and it’s own seating area! But I do dream of just a little bit of elbow room. *sigh* That would be nice... someday. However, that day is not today. And as is true for many old houses, the closets in this one are small.

My little-bitty closet has been fine, but I know it could be better. I know I can optimize this tiny space. So for my next project, I'm going to try and get as much functionality out of as much square footage as I can... and hopefully make it prettier while I'm at it! Here is the closet as it is today:

I spent last week de-cluttering and pairing down my wardrobe for the very purpose of this organization project. I got rid of everything I don't need and everything I haven't worn. I said goodbye to the unnecessary in efforts to set myself up for success here. I've measured, I've worked and re-worked the layout, and I think I've come up with the best solution.

(I know, I know. This drawing is a true work of art). I'm planning on constructing a center cubby with 4 drawers on the bottom, shelves on the top and a narrow shoe rack to the side. The left of the closet will hold my dresses and the right will be two levels - the top for shirts and the bottom for pants.

I think having this space more functional and more visually clean is going to have a huge effect for me. I want this house, especially my bedroom, to make me feel calm. I want this space to lower my anxiety, not cause it. And I think these changes are going to do just that!
